Hi, I’m Natalie Lyall-Grant. I’m a English and Creative writing student in my final year at the University of Hull.
I’m the fashion editor of my student magazine, Hullfire, and have had articles published in a number of local and international publications including popular expat magazine That’s Shanghai, and Hull’s main newspaper Hull Daily Mail.
I’m extremely passionate about both travel and writing, and am an aspiring travel writer and novelist. I want to use this blog to share tips, document my stories and photos, and pinpoint my progress as a travel journalist.
I began really travelling, that is to say travelling by myself without friends or family, when I was 18. I spent two months in Sri Lanka, working first as a teacher, and then volunteering at an elephant orphanage. This is where I gained my thirst for travel, and I went on to visit China, spending a month there working as a journalist, and then last year I spent two months travelling solo around South East Asia. So far my travels have been much briefer than I would like them to be, due to studying as a full-time student. However, as this is my last year, I expect to be spending a lot more time abroad from now on. My life is on the road.
I have visited:
Turkey
Cambodia
Greece
Spain
Germany
France
Sri Lanka
China
Laos
Mali
Holland
Italy
Thailand
Belgium
I intend to see the rest of the world.
